Valheim 1.0 & the Deep North Update — Everything in the Full Release
Published 2026-09-238 min read
Valheim 1.0 is here: the Deep North biome, eighth boss Kall Fimbulbringer, 40+ new weapons, grappling hook, frozen seas, inventory upgrades and achievements — the complete rundown.
On September 9, 2026 — five and a half years after early access began — Valheim left early access. Version 1.0 ships the game's final biome, its eighth boss, the biggest content drop since Ashlands, and a long list of quality-of-life and engine upgrades. Here is everything that matters, with links to the deep guides.

The Deep North biome
Valheim's northernmost reaches are no longer empty coastline. The Deep North is a full survival biome: thick snow that must be cleared before you can build, frozen seas and ponds with thin ice that punishes carelessness, new locations (abandoned villages, stave halls, ice ponds, memorial sites), and dungeons — the Winding Tunnels and Mörkhalla. The biome assumes a post-Fader character and is tuned as the game's victory lap; see the Deep North survival guide.
The Jotun invasion and the eighth boss
1.0's story: the Jotun have begun their invasion of Valheim, and their warlord — Kall Fimbulbringer — waits at the heart of the north as the eighth and final boss. New raid events ("The Jotun have found you," "They emerge from below…") bring the war to your doorstep. The full fight breakdown lives in the Kall Fimbulbringer guide.
The loot mountain
The abbreviated patch notes read like a wish list:
- 40+ new weapons, including the full Nord arsenal (swords, greatswords, atgeirs, maces, sledge, axes, greataxes, spears, daggers and more)
- 4 new armor sets — medium and heavy lines fed by Jotun-dropped armour moulds
- 2 new capes, 2 new trinkets, new tools — including the grappling hook
- New bombs and ammunition for the ranged and siege slots
- 80+ new buildable pieces, 5 new crafting-related pieces, 30+ new crafting materials, 20+ new food items
- New creatures (10+), new locations, new music, new events, new mechanics
The crafting-side deep dive — Frost Foundry, Frigid Kiln, materials economy and the Idol hunt — is in the Deep North crafting guide.
New mechanics
- Snow clearing — hoe drifts before building.
- Frozen seas — walkable ice, cracking thin ice, and a whole new risk model for northern sailing.
- The grappling hook — traverse heights; rescue yourself from ice and crevasses.
- Alternate biomes — the world's edges can hold alternate versions of earlier biomes, a whole new exploration layer.
- Mysterious idols — gathered and delivered to the hidden Forge of Potential for a chance at upgrading items beyond their normal ceiling.
- Upgradeable pockets — Haldor sells Deeper Pockets and Wider Pockets, permanent inventory expansions.
- Achievements — finally, a checklist for your saga.
Fixes and foundations
The technical list is long: a new save system (chunked, resilient), a Unity engine upgrade, a new draw distance graphics setting, overhauled hammer/serving-tray menus, Magica cloth for capes, movement animation overhauls, Ashlands spawn rebalancing, mist-removal buffs for Mistlands weapons, much faster world generation and reduced network traffic for terrain edits — plus Ukrainian as an officially supported language.
